Steam Room

Spacious and beautifully designed, our steam room is a haven of warmth and cleansing, deeply rooted in age-old wellness traditions.

45°C, and it feels warmer

We set our steam rooms to 45°C, but the humidity makes it feel warmer. It is the gentlest heat in the club and the easiest place to start.

Infused with lemongrass

We often infuse the steam with natural lemongrass for a fresh, invigorating feel that stays with you after you leave.

Ten to fifteen minutes is plenty. Clearer skin, easier breathing, muscle relaxation, and deep stress relief.

Sit in the steam between rounds, or make it the whole session. You get access to everything in the club, and nothing is timed but your booking.

Room to sit properly

Full-height tiled benches with space to lie down, so a busy session never feels crowded.

Straight from the heat to the cold

The steam room sits beside the ice baths, so moving between hot and cold takes a few steps.

In detail

XtraClubs provides a dedicated wet heat experience through our custom-built steam rooms. Our steam room is a separate and distinct facility from our dry saunas, specifically engineered to offer a hydrating heat at a constant 45°C. These facilities provide the tools for respiratory and skin maintenance that standard fitness centres do not offer.

How the steam room works

A generator boils water and feeds saturated steam into a sealed, tiled room until the air holds about as much water as it can. The thermostat sits at 45°C, which is half what the Finnish sauna runs at, and it does not feel like half.

The reason is sweat. In dry heat, sweat evaporates off your skin and takes heat with it, which is what makes 90°C tolerable. At close to 100 percent humidity there is nowhere for the moisture to go, so it stays on you and so does the heat. Expect to feel it within a minute or two rather than after ten.

Why use our steam room?

Wet heat does a few things dry heat does not.

  • Moist air. Warm, saturated air is easier on the nose and throat than 90°C of dry heat, which is why some people who cannot settle in a sauna are comfortable here.
  • Skin. High-pressure steam opens the pores and increases blood flow to the skin. Most people notice their skin feels softer afterwards.

What the research says

These are the topics research has examined, and how much weight each one can bear. Every finding is an association rather than proof, and the papers behind them are published in full.

  • Established evidence

    Heart health and circulation

The strongest evidence for regular sauna use sits here — large prospective cohort studies link frequent sauna bathing to lower cardiovascular mortality.

  • Emerging evidence

    Stress and headaches

Regular sauna use is associated with significant relief from chronic tension-type headache, and is widely used as a way to wind down.

  • Emerging evidence

    Skin

Steam bathing is associated with softer skin. The evidence behind that is the thinnest on the site and we would rather say so than dress it up.

Steam Room frequently asked questions

How hot does it get?

We set our steam rooms to 45°C, but the humidity makes it feel warmer.

What are the benefits?

Clearer skin, easier breathing, muscle relaxation, and deep stress relief.

How long should I stay in?

10–15 minutes per session is plenty for most people.

Do you add any scent to the steam room?

Yes — we often infuse the steam with natural lemongrass for a fresh, invigorating feel.

Is there anyone who should take care?

Heat and cold both put load on the heart and the circulation. That is most of the point of them, and it is also why some people should check before they start.

  • Speak to your doctor first if you are pregnant, if you have a heart condition, if your blood pressure runs high or low, or if you take medication for it
  • Do not use the sauna, steam room or ice baths after drinking alcohol
  • Stop and get out if you feel dizzy, faint, unwell or simply unsure — heat and cold place real physical stress on the body and there is nothing to be gained by pushing through
  • Cool down gradually rather than all at once, and drink water between rounds
  • Our clubs run unstaffed for part of the week. If you have a condition that could mean you need someone on site, contact the team and ask when the club you use is staffed
  • You must be 18 or over to use the clubs

None of this is medical advice and our staff are not qualified to give any. If you are unsure whether heat or cold is right for you, ask your GP before your first session.

have been coming to the new club in Manly since it opened, and I have been loving it. Not only is it well located, but it also offers everything you need to relax and decompress. All the staff are really helpful, but Evelina truly makes a difference. I have come across her twice at the club, and she always greets you with a big smile. She is patient and extremely attentive. A big thank you to her for making me feel so welcome.🙏
